The Coach's Corner

Beginning again

The Coach’s Corner Newsletter #84

You’re probably familiar with the idea that doing something over and over while expecting a different result is the definition of insanity. Yet how often do we find ourselves repeating behaviors that no longer serve us?

Whether in relationships, leading a team or in your professional journey, here are two questions to mull over as you begin this new year.

What’s working for you? Keep it going.
What’s no longer working for you? Stop doing that!

Malcolm Goldsmith’s brilliant reminder that ‘every breath is a new breath’ provides room to start over any time. There’s no timeline about when to release those things that don’t work any longer. It’s entirely up to you.

3 practices for change in 2025

Collecting the wisdom I gain from working with executive leaders, here are three practices that may help you change up how you’re doing things – to get the results you want.

1. Use your energy to change up elements in your own life. Recognize that how and when others make decisions is entirely up to them.

2. Dive into what gives you purpose and meaning and prompts you to grow. Share your discoveries only when asked.

3. When someone taps you on the shoulder with a thoughtful request, listen. Consider whether it’s possible and then respond.

My takeaway

So often it’s the simple reminders I forget. Like knowing when to stop talking, stop scrolling or stop fretting about anything.

When I do stop, I am free to build on the conversations, relationships and experiences that have shaped my life through years of broadcasting and coaching. I know what to do, and so do you.

In the coming weeks I’m going to share insights from leaders I know, admire and have worked with through thick and thin. Ever wonder what sets apart the strong leaders you want to follow from those you want to avoid at all costs?

Coming up at the end of February, I’ll be hosting a free webinar about maximizing effective leadership. We’ll call out common mistakes, the cost of those mistakes and most importantly cover the three keys the great leaders I’ve worked with have managed to unlock.

More on the exact date coming soon.
