The Coach's Corner

Coming Back

Story: Breakthrough.

For the past four months I’ve been quieter than I planned. A ruptured Achilles and weeks of PT forced me to slow down and pay more attention than ever to my physical core. With direction from a strong physical therapist and exercises that carried me between sessions, I’ve learned some valuable insights about growth, leadership and recovery.

This injury meant weeks in a cast, a scooter, and then learning how to walk again without assistance. Every step led me to where I am today, using High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) to heal slowly and thoroughly.

I came to understand how much I had to stay connected to my core and realized how, as leaders, connecting to your core is essential to growth, too.

That’s why the Coach’s Corner newsletter is evolving into “Leadership Core.” I’ll continue to share stories from amazing leaders and clients and here’s my new commitment: short, high-intensity practices you can run between meetings to strengthen how you lead, communicate and recover when things break!

In each newsletter, I’ll highlight one story, one interval and one reflection.

Interval: A 3-minute reset to lead more effectively.

  1. First, take a moment to sit quietly and feel your feet on the floor.
  2. Next, take a deep breath in and exhale through your mouth. Breathe in and out three times.
  3. As you consider your upcoming meeting, write down the outcome you want. Say it aloud.

Reflection: What changed when you showed up ready for your meeting, instead of rushed?

If this 3-minute reset helped, consider using it before one meeting a day for the next week and see what shifts for you.

Glad to be back…
