Five Ways to Hit the Ground Running.
There’s plenty to dread about Mondays. If you’re in a challenging situation, your stress probably began Sunday afternoon just thinking about today.
What would happen if Monday could become the day you get a redo from whatever didn’t go exactly as you hoped last week?
Here are a few ideas on how to shake up the focus of your Mondays.
- Today matters.
Consider the value you bring to this Monday by waking up. What you offer to your colleagues, a close friend, your workout buddies or your family. You make a difference in someone’s life. When you live as if what you do matters, it does. And so do you.
- It’s about you.
A wonderful reminder to release what you can’t control as you jumpstart the week is Reinhold Niebuhr’s Serenity Prayer.
“God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
Courage to change the things I can,
And wisdom to know the difference.”
- Find one thing to be grateful for.
Just one thing. The sunrise. The hassle-free commute. Your job. A snow day. Your dog. Your cat. The barista at your favorite coffee shop.
- Eliminate negative words.
Just for today, what if you did your best to spin everything you say from a positive framework? Something as simple as “that’s fine,” instead of “no worries.” This is a great mental challenge, see where it takes you.
- Review your Monday.
Being totally neutral, examine what happened throughout the day. How did that work? What might I do differently? Where will this take me? What did I learn that will make tomorrow better?
And if for some reason today winds up tougher than expected, get a good night’s sleep and remember, there’s always Tuesday.
You’ve got this.
