Happy Friday! How has your week unfolded? I hope it’s filling up with new insights, a deeper understanding of yourself and the world around you and a connection to those who inspire, challenge and support you in your endeavors.
My biggest insight has been to take each element of my day and carve out a special time for it. It’s how this discipline of daily writing is taking hold. Whatever time I block out to write, I clear everything else out of the way. Whether I collect the thoughts from what I read, or observe on a walk, or hear in a conversation – I pull them all together and begin to write in a space where I will not be interrupted.
When I am done, I move on to the next order of business.
Multi-tasking used to be something I thought was essential to managing my ‘busy’ life. A little writing here, take a phone call, jump on a meeting, read an article, create a project, listen to the news, answer the door. And what I produced came out all mixed up.
When I focus on one thing at a time, I truly savor whatever I am doing. Even if it’s cleaning the toilet. One. Thing. At. A. Time.
There will always be something that can knock us off balance and send us on a wild goose chase. But that’s not the norm.
Consider doing just one thing, and then the next, and the next.
How might that change your life?
You’ve got this.
